Report: Free Agents Campbell, Jefferson Find Homes

It appears the inevitable is happening for the Arizona Cardinals as various reports surfaced Wednesday evening defensive stalwarts Calais Campbell and Tony Jefferson will both be departing via free agency.

Jacksonville is expected to sign Arizona DE Calais Campbell barring any last minute negotiable snags, per @diannaESPN.

The Jaguars appear to be making a splash on the defensive side of the ball for the second year in a row after signing Malik Jackson last spring to a five-year, $85.5 million dollar deal. Jacksonville’s defense could turn around quickly adding Campbell, who some believe is the prize of this year’s defensive line free-agents, to pair with Jackson and a slew of draft picks next month.

The Ravens also did well last year in free-agency bringing veteran Eric Weddle in from San Diego to shore up their secondary. Jefferson, 25, was a full-time starter for the first time last season with the Cardinals and reportedly will turn down a more lucrative deal from the Cleveland Browns to sign with the Ravens.

Again, neither of these departures are shocking considering the high-dollar figure both were rumored to be asking on the open market and the Cardinals focusing their attention this week on re-signing tight end Jermaine Gresham, among others.

News broke Wednesday afternoon the Cards are also working on a five-year extension with Chandler Jones who registered double-digit sacks after coming over in a trade with the New England Patriots last spring.
