The Arizona Cardinals had quite a week.
After Monday’s hard-fought win over the San Diego Chargers, the next 48 hours were marred by John Abraham’s abrupt exit from team as he mulls over retirement and Larry Fitzgerald, SR. taking to twitter questioning the Cardinals’ use of his son after just one catch for 22 yards. He was targeted just four times in quarterback Carson Palmer’s 37 attempts.
This weekend the Cards are getting some much-needed good news: the New York Giants.
Tom Caughlin’s team is coming off a lopsided 35-14 loss to the Lions where New York’s offense managed just 197 total yards and their defense allowed 417, including an eye-popping 6.6 per play.
“The New York Giants have to be seriously concerned,” SI.com senior NFL writer Peter King told Sports360AZ.com’s Brad Cesmat in his weekly interview. “They don’t do anything well on offense. They don’t have any answers for Eli Manning. The offensive line stinks and they don’t have a great answer at tight end. They’re thin at receiver.”
The signs were evident in the pre-season when New York struggled for five weeks in August trying to find their offensive identity which clearly never surfaced in Detroit.
“I think it’s going to be a very long year for the Giants,” King continued. “I haven’t seen them play well in well over a year on offense.”
The Cardinals will be fighting the astigmatism attached to a west coast team flying across country to play what’s essentially a mid-morning game Arizona time.
Regardless, King believes Todd Bowles’ defense can build off their strong performance against the Chargers (less than 300 total yards allowed) as they take on New York’s mis-guided offensive attack.
“They are just not running on any cylinders on offense right now.”
Kickoff is set for shortly after 10:00 on Sunday.
