Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver James Lofton knows a thing or two about catching passes in the NFL. So when he says Larry Fitzgerald still has the drive and ability to continue playing, who are we to argue?
“He can continue to play and be a 65-80 catch guy in this offense,” Lofton, now a NFL on CBS analyst said to Sports360AZ.com’s Brad Cesmat in a recent phone interview. “I think he is so durable…you show by what you can do on the practice field. You show by what you can do in a game and you can be vocal. I think he does all three of those things really well.”
Fitz is coming off a solid game Sunday in an upset win over the Seahawks in Seattle where he caught four passes for 48 yards and a touchdown. While his touchdowns are down this season (four), he still has tallied 71 receptions for 749 yards and the Cards (5-9-1) close out their season Sunday in Los Angeles against the Rams.
Lofton believes, whatever Fitzgerald decides to do after this season his legacy, both on and off the field, will be forever etched in NFL lore.
“Maybe he hasn’t won as many championships as people would have liked,” Lofton explained. “But he has been everything for an organization that wants a great player. For people to walk around that town in number 11 jerseys, he means something far greater than just being an outstanding football player.”
