Mesa’s Dan’s Gym Builds More Than Just Fighters

By Jasmine Garcia

Located in Mesa, Arizona, Dan’s Gym has become more than just a place to learn boxing, kick boxing and Muay Thai. The family-run gym has built a reputation for creating a tight knit family and welcoming environment while helping athletes develop both inside and outside of the gym.

Owner Danny Brandt opened Dan’s Gym after spending more than 20 years teaching at other gyms. With decades of experience in martial arts, Brandt wanted the opportunity to create a program that reflected his own vision.

“After teaching at so many other gyms for over 20 years, I wanted more freedom and control of the program I offer,” Brandt said.

That vision has helped shape the culture at Dan’s Gym. While students come to learn martial arts, Brandt believes the gym’s family atmosphere is what makes it stand out.

“We are unique in the way we teach fundamentals,” Brandt said. “We draw from 35 years of experience of boxing, kickboxing and Muay Thai. Our family-run program gives people the opportunity to learn from the best and also be part of our family.”

The gym welcomes students of all ages and experience levels, creating an environment where beginners and experienced athletes can train alongside one another. According to Brandt, the goal is for every person who walks through the doors to feel comfortable while learning something new.

“I hope they experience excitement and fun, being able to learn and train in a laid-back space,” Brandt said.

Beyond its community atmosphere, Dan’s Gym has also produced athletes who have found success on national and international stages. Among them is Tierra “T Money” Brandt, a four-time IFMA gold medalist, WBC champion and current WMC champion. The gym has also helped develop athletes such as Remy Halscott, an IFMA Youth World Champion and two-time USA champion.

As Dan’s Gym continues to grow, Brandt remains focused on providing quality instruction while creating a place where athletes can learn, improve and feel like part of a family.

For Brandt, Dan’s Gym is about more than martial arts,it’s about building a community that people can call home.
