Keith Abney II became one of the most reliable defensive backs in the entire nation in his time with the Arizona State Sun Devils.
Now, he brings that reliability to the Detroit after the Lions selected him in the 5th round in the NFL Draft.
Abney has been a mainstay in the secondary the past few years. He was a part of Kenny Dillingham’s first recruiting classes. In 2024, he stepped in as one of the full-time starter cornerbacks and hasn’t looked back since.
In 2025, he had 12 passes defended, which was top-10 in the nation and second-best in the Big 12. He also tallied two interceptions and two forced fumbles.
The Barrett Honors College student worked closely with defensive backs coach Bryan Carrington to thrive in the Big 12 and prepare himself for the next level.
