While Hamilton football is one of the most dominant programs in the state, there was a time when they were the new school looking to prove themselves.
The program made a name for itself under John Wrenn, and a young linebacker named Jimmy Rogers was the man in the middle of Hamilton’s defense, helping lead the Huskies to its first two state titles.
Rogers eventually went on to play at South Dakota State before getting into coaching. He worked his way up through the Jackrabbits program and eventually was a national championship-winning head coach before heading to Washington State and now Iowa State.
But there was one Friday that could have derailed all of that. Rogers faced incredible adversity and pushed through to not only help Hamilton win state, but also earn a sport to play for South Dakota State. Had a few things gone differently, Rogers believes he’s not leading the Iowa State program today.
