Staff addition – Cody Cameron joins Sports360az’s Recruiting Roundup

A note from Brad Cesmat

We welcome Cody Cameron to the Sports360az Recruiting Roundup platforms online and on TV. Cody came on my radar from our team’s suggestions several years ago. I’ve had the unfortunate side of getting to know Cody on a golf course. He crushes the ball and is one of those guys who can’t seem to hit a putt to save his life in a charity event. Most importantly, he’s a good person; he cares about kids and parents navigating the minute-by-minute changing world of recruiting. His credibility with college and high school coaches, along with his positive vibe, are big reasons why I wanted to bring him into our recruiting platform. Claudia Collins has done a tremendous job of carrying the Recruiting Roundup torch. She will continue to be on the platform, shifting her attention to the story of each athlete we focus on. Claudia has a huge heart and an even better storytelling eye for the good in the high school and college recruiting.
I like to look at the last thirteen years of building the Recruiting Roundup platform and am so happy we launched it. Current Brophy head coach Jason Jewell was our first Recruiting Roundup voice alongside Jared Cohen. Both have gone on to great personal and professional success after their time with us. Jordy Hamm took the Recruiting Roundup helm and steered it straight until he wanted to dive more into just the college platform. Eric Sorenson has played a key role in not just growing Roundup but the company’s overall trajectory. Jordan Spurgeon and Eliav Gabay have both contributed to help make the platform shine. I asked Cody to share some thoughts.

I was born into a sports family, so the sports scene has always been a part of me. My dad was the head football coach at the only high school in Hollister, CA, and my mom was a die-hard Bay Area sports fan. After finishing my undergrad at Northern Arizona University in May of 2017, I moved down to Phoenix and quickly found a niche for covering the college football recruiting scene. High school sports are unique, unlike the Friday Night Lights. However, I found a passion for following a player’s recruiting journey and how they navigate the process with all of the offers, visits, and, finally, the excitement they have when they officially sign their NLI. The Kelee Ringo’s, Brock Purdy’s, Bijan Robinson’s and Cade Bennett’s of the world make the Arizona High School football recruiting scene special. I have always dedicated my platform to promoting Arizona high school athletes, and to have the opportunity to continue to do that on a platform as renowned as Sports360AZ gets me fired up!! Most importantly, it allows me to work alongside their well-respected team and talented journalists, most of whom are already close friends of mine.

The current college football recruiting landscape is challenging for several reasons. There are no penalties for transferring, an influx of players in the portal, and college coaches too afraid of handing a high school player an offer over the 21-year-old Power-4 player with 3 -years remaining of eligibility. The good thing for Arizona high school football athletes is that they play in a state with numerous options and opportunities to be seen and recruited in person. The state of Arizona remains a recruiting hot-bed for college football, Over 150+ schools will be here in May recruiting student-athletes at numerous showcases, camps, and practices. Players who have taken care of business in the classroom, weight room, and track will be rewarded with opportunities, and those are the journeys that I look to cover during the Recruiting Round-up
