Arizona State just completed a crucial recruiting weekend, and they’ve already added multiple high-level recruits to their class. Monday night, Hawaii offensive lineman Filiva’a Saluni made his pledge public. On Tuesday, Seattle running back Jason Brown Jr. announced his commitment to Kenny Dillingham’s program.
The Sun Devils made up a considerable amount of ground in the span of a couple weeks with Brown. In August, the running back announced a top-three of Oregon, Washington and Michigan State.
“Originally, when I first cut down my schools, ASU was not a front-runner,” Brown said. “After having conversations with the coaching staff and really building that relationship, I realized that the people here are special and this is something I want to be a part of.”
Official Visit Helps Jason Brown Make Things Official
The 5-foot-10, 200-pound running back visited Tempe this past weekend. His time on campus confirmed exactly what he was hoping for. He spent time with running backs Kyson Brown and George Hart as well as fellow Sun Devil commit Jayden Fortier.
Brown said the interactions on a visit are always a little different – for better or worse – than talking to a program over the phone. But once he got on campus, he could see a consistency with the ASU coaches.
“When I got (to Tempe), I was really surprised to see these are the same people that I was talking to over 1,000 miles away.”
Brown values his relationships with Dillingham and running backs coach Shaun Aguano in particular. Those strong connections helped the Sun Devils stand out. He’ll get a chance to prove himself in new offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo’s offense when he ar to Tempe.
According to MaxPreps, Brown ran for 876 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns in six games (146 yards per game). He also transformed his body ahead of his senior year, dropping about 10 pounds, adding to his speed and explosiveness in the backfield.
Sun Devil Recruiting Update
Brown is the 17th commit of ASU’s class and the only running back currently in the class. Cameron Skattebo was a workhorse in the Sun Devil backfield last year and has one year of eligibility remaining. DeCarlos Brooks also holds remaining eligibility. Kyson Brown just wrapped up his freshman season and tallied 23 carries for 106 yards.
And Brown has big plans not only for the backfield but the entire Sun Devil program.
“I’m excited to be here. I’m excited to build something special. I truly believe that the making of this team with the backing of the coaching staff and the guys that are going to jump in the boat fully invested, this team can be special. This team can bring a championship to Tempe.”
