Arizona State Football’s off-season is in full swing. The Devils hosted multiple recruits this weekend and are gearing up for when the transfer portal officially opens on Monday.

There have also been changes to the coaching staff. First, Diron Reynolds was named the team’s defensive line coach, replacing Vince Amey, who will serve in an analyst role moving forward.

On the other side of the football, Marcus Arroyo will take over as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Sun Devils.

Arroyo was most recently the head coach at UNLV from 2020-22, where the Rebels went 7-23 in that time.

Prior to that, he was Oregon’s offensive coordinator from 2018-19 where he worked with now-Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert.

He also spent time at Oklahoma State, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Southern Miss, Cal, Wyoming, San Jose State and Prairie View A&M in a coaching career that started in 2003.

Arroyo replaces Beau Baldwin in the role, who just completed his first year with the Sun Devils.

Arroyo also has NFL experience with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as interim offensive coordinator in 2014-15. Under his watch, Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson both tallied 1,000 receiving yards, the first time in team history that mark has been reached.

In Arroyo’s two years as sole offensive coordinator with the Ducks, Herbert threw for 6,622 yards, 61 passing touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

Arroyo is also known for his recruiting acumen. He helped oversee the commitments of Mycah Pittman & Tyler Shough at Oregon, Jared Goff at Cal and Chuba Hubbard at Oklahoma State.

Arroyo will look to jump-start an ASU offense that finished 109th in the NCAA in total offense last year. Injuries and depth issues played a major role in those struggles, but having an offensive mind that can take over play-calling duties for Dillingham – who became play-caller after Week 3 – could be beneficial for the staff.
