Here are some highlights from our most recent conversation (October 13th) with the Fantasy Sports Writer’s Association Hall of Famer.
With Andy Dalton now the guy in Dallas, how does that impact the Cowboys’ wide receivers? “I feel like there is a bit of a downgrade there because the quarterback play won’t be as good, although Andy Dalton is one of the better – if not the best – backup quarterbacks in the NFL. You’re going to still play Amari Cooper as you normally would. You’re still going to play CeeDee Lamb as you normally would. Michael Gallup is the third guy there in terms of targets. He’s probably a matchup-based starter, although most people are probably going to have to play him as a flex during the bye weeks…hoping for good things from this group on Monday night against the Cardinals in what should be a high-scoring game.”
Is there any silver lining for owners of Dak Prescott? “The good news, and most of it’s bad because you’re losing Dak, but if you had to lose a top player at any position in fantasy football, quarterback is probably the one you could replace the easiest. Not that you can replace Dak because you can’t but there are probably some pretty good options on the waiver wire there.”
What’s your fantasy read on Travis Fulgham in Philly? “He’s certainly worth a look off the waiver wire if he’s still there. Carson Wentz is looking at him a ton. He got 13 targets this past week. He had 13.7 points the previous week in Week Four. He did it against Pittsburgh. That’s impressive. Maybe Pittsburgh’s defense isn’t that good but he’s got the Ravens this week. I don’t know if I’m starting him against the Ravens. That to me is chasing the points but then he’s got the Giants and the Cowboys – two really good matchups. Is he worth adding? Absolutely! Is he worth starting in Week Six? Probably not.”
Where do you rank the red-hot Justin Herbert? “I can’t put him in the top ten because the position is too deep. Top 15? He’s pushing for it. LA has a bye this week because of all the COVID schedule madness but his numbers have been great. Seven touchdowns in the last two games. He’s gone up Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Patrick Mahomes. Remember, the Chargers had a chance to win that game against Kansas City earlier this year. He’s looked great. I didn’t think he was going to do this, honestly. Name me the last Oregon quarterback who come into the NFL and done anything. It was Dan Fouts back in the 70’s and 80’s. He needs to be owned across the board.”
What’s been your read on JuJu Smith-Schuster? “Whether or not he’s played well, it doesn’t matter. In fantasy he’s not doing the job and in reality, we’re learning he needs Antonio Brown back because he hasn’t done much without Antonio Brown.”
What do you think about Chase Edmonds out here in Arizona? “Chase Edmonds is worth an add. I talked about him last week. He still lost the touch battle to Kenyan Drake but Kenyan Drake doesn’t look good. The Jets are awful and Drake got into the end zone but he didn’t look that great. So Chase Edmonds is a player who needs to be added across the board.”
