Embrace College Football Change, Cowboys worth, Harrison Jr., NIL in high school, more…

Arizona Sports News online

In this new world of college athletics, a week three football game between Arizona and Kansas State means something! The battle of the Wildcats could be a piece to the College Football Playoff. Disagree? Well, you haven’t been paying attention to what the new world looks like. Both teams are ranked in the preseason poll and have winnable games in the season’s first two weeks. 2-0 vs 2-0 under the lights of the purple in Manhatten, KS. on September 13th should be an electric atmosphere. With the expanded playoff now up to 12 schools, games like this are a big part of the CFP. The winner is likely in the top 10-15 slots, with that school’s fanbase on fire. Next week, I will be intent on watching when Florida plays Miami(Fla.) and Florida State takes on Georgia Tech…

What’s Wrong with Sports

The last time the Dallas Cowboys were in a Super Bowl was 1996. Braveheart won best picture and “One Sweet Day” by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men was atop the Billboard charts. I bring this up because this week, that same Dallas Cowboys organization led by Jerry Jones came in with a value of $10 Billion. https://www.foxbusiness.com/sports/dallas-cowboys-first-sports-team-surpass-10-billion-valueYes, billion with a B. What exactly have they won in the last 28 years? Nothing on the field, just at the cash register…

Marvin Harrison Jr. going back to Indianapolis is a great story. Of course, if he played for something in a regular season game, it would mean much more. But, if we were to have a civil discussion(a lost art these days) about where his dad, the Hall of Fame Colts legend, would fall in the pantheon of great wide receivers, I’d have to go with Jerry Rice, Marvin Harrison as #1, and #2. Consider Larry Fitzgerald’s numbers if he had the great quarterbacks that Rice and Harrison played alongside. It’s not a slight at Fitz; it’s just a fact…

40 games left in the regular season, and the Diamondbacks have 69 wins. I thought 89 would get them into the postseason, but the way this team plays, 95 wins, isn’t out of the question. What a season. If you haven’t caught baseball fever here in town, give the Hometown Nine a shot. Offense sells. Over the last month, the Diamondbacks have had the most potent offense.

Stunning stat. The Diamondbacks have committed just three errors since the All-Star break…

Thumbs down

When, but not if, the NFL does away with most of the fraud of August football, what will the quality of games look like in September? How many players will be lost to injury because they weren’t ready for the 18-20 games that the League wants to see played? Will training camp become a thing of the past? The dude on his gambling app doesn’t care. The same goes for the fantasy football player. Just keep finding workers…

This and that…

The AIA notified Arizona high schools earlier this week that NIL for players is prohibited.

So…I was 20 years old doing high school football play-by-play in Vista, California, for a school that had the players go over to the fence line after each game and walk along the fence with their helmets turned upside down. Parents would put cash into each helmet after every game(home and road). How would you regulate that in 2024?…

AIA needs officials. If you are the person who constantly rips on refs, why not try to be the solution rather than the problem? Go apply, get paid, and find out how hard the job can be. Here’s the application. https://aiaonline.org/officials

Why should I believe in you if you don’t believe in yourself?…
