One of the grittiest teams in the ‘W’ will have to continue digging deep in order to make the postseason.
The Mercury announced Monday that Diana Taurasi will be out for the remainder of the season with a right quad strain.
Taurasi missed the last two games and was marked questionable for those contests, giving the X-Factor a glimmer of hope that DT would make a comeback in time for a playoff run.
Unfortunately, Phoenix will have to manage without one of the greatest players of all time.
Prior to to those pair of games, Taurasi averaged 31 minutes and started 31 games for the Merc.
Taurasi has put up about 17 points per game to go along with almost four assists and three boards in her 18th campaign.
With the Mercury currently at the eighth and final slot in the playoff picture, they’ll battle with teams like the Dream and Liberty for those last two spots.
Phoenix signed some reinforcements by way of Yvonne “Vonnie” Turner, who joined the Merc on a hardship contract.
The 5-foot-10 guard averaged 6.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists in her last season with PHX in 2019.
She’ll be available for Wednesday night’s game against the Lynx, who are just one game back from the Mercury with three regular season games to go.
As far as Taurasi’s future is concerned, she has repeatedly said she’ll continue to play as long as she ‘can hoop’.
