The Arizona Diamondbacks took to the road for their long stint away from Chase Field – 11 games to be exact – with a four-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers. From Diamondback starter performances, high strikeout numbers or clutch hitting, there is a lot to sift through in their four-game split with the Brew Crew:

The Diamondbacks have not had an issue hitting this year, but they did have some trouble against Chase Anderson and Jimmie Nelson, the two starters to earn wins for the Brewers. Anderson no-hit threw seven innings of one-hit ball and striking out 11. The following day, Nelson went from seven innings and striking out 10. The Diamondbacks are certainly susceptible to the strikeout, racking up the fourth-most in the MLB, but it was at an alarming rate in their series losses.

Iannetta Makes Impact
It’s amazing that Chris Ianetta is back in the lineup, let alone contributing, after getting hit in the face on May 13th. But the catcher came up clutch for the Diamondbacks, hitting 3/8 with a home run and two RBIs. That home run came on Friday with two outs in the ninth to bring the game to extra innings, where the Diamondbacks eventually won 4-2.
On or Off for Diamondback Starters
Let me start with this: The Brewers are one of the best offensive lineups in the league, scoring the fourth-most runs in the MLB (the Diamondbacks are ranked third). It seemed like the Diamondback starters were either able to shut down the Brew Crew, or they were knocked around early. The two starters who lost, Zack Greinke and Pat Corbin threw a combined 9.1 innings, gave up 12 earned runs. It was the big hits that hurt both pitchers, Greinke gave up a three-run double to Jett Bandy and Corbin gave up a grand slam on Sunday to Domingo Santana.
On the flip side, Robbie Ray and Zack Godley threw a combined 13 innings, seven hits and stiking out 15 and earned two wins. Ray has thrown back-to-back starts with at least seven innings and giving up zero earned runs. Godley has strung together a month of May where he threw 26.2 innings, striking out 20 and sporting a 1.69 ERA.
The Diamondbacks head to Pittsburgh for a three-game series. Randall Delgado, Robbie Ray and Zack Godley are slated to throw for the Snakes.
