DaRon Holmes II, who played for Millennium and Arizona Compass Prep in his prep ball, is heading to the NBA.
The forward was selected No. 22 overall by the Denver Nuggets. The pick was owned by the hometown Phoenix Suns, but a trade is set up for the Nuggets to come up and grab that pick.
Holmes was a mainstay over the past three years for the Dayton Flyers, where he averaged 17.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game in that time.
He was the 2024 Atlantic 10 Co-Player fo the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.
While at Millennium, he was the Arizona Gatorade Player fo the Year in 2019-20 and averaged 23.7 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.8 blocks and 3.1 assists per game.
He is the second Arizona native to be drafted in this year’s class. Perry’s Cody Williams was drafted with the No. 10 overall pick by the Utah Jazz on Wednesday as well.
