The Benjamin Franklin Chargers improved to a perfect 6-0 record after defeating Valley Christian Trojans 35-0 in dominating fashion on Friday, Sept. 25.
The Chargers have started the season red hot and it was no different this week in Chandler, AZ.
The Trojans handled business on the road and posted their fourth straight defensive shutout. This win also marks their sixth straight game with 35 points or more.
On the Chargers end, there were two things that stood out to me most.
- The Chargers have extreme confidence in their senior Quarterback Gavin Wyler.
Wyler recorded four touchdown passes on the night. The senior constantly found the open man and showed his mastery of their offensive system.
“I think this guy’s amazing…we run our whole team through him. In my opinion he’s one of the better quarterbacks in the state,” said Chargers offensive coordinator and former NFL linebacker, Brandon Johnson.
Wyler, who wears the number 9 on his jersey like his favorite quarterback Bryce Young, said that he’s been able to develop his skills and football knowledge a lot with coach Johnson’s help.

- The Chargers’ defense shows no mercy.
Including this win, the Chargers have not allowed a single point in four games.
That is a very impressive feat at any level of organized football. At times during the game, the Trojans’ offense was able to put plays together and gain momentum only to be stopped by the Chargers’ defense.
The Chargers defensive unit created multiple turnovers, including one at the end of the first half with their heels on their own goal line.

On the Trojans’ end, there was one thing that stood out to me most.
- Valley Christian junior running back Deandre Dickerson Jr. can play.
Despite the loss, Dickerson Jr. put up a good game and was one of the few bright spots for the Trojan’s offense. The game saw a heavy dose of the junior back and he made the best of his opportunities on the ground.
Dickerson Jr. has the advantage of size at 5 foot 11, 185 pounds. He gained yardage using his physicality many times and broke away with speed a few times as well.
With a loss the Trojans move to 4-2 and will be back at home against Seton Catholic next week.
After the game, Benjamin Franklin head coach Danny Norris said, “Our guys just want to improve every single time. They just want to get better, and every single week they continue to make a statement.”
The Trojans will have their chance to make another statement next week on the road against Gilbert Christian.
