ASU’s Loss to Utah: By The Numbers

(AP Photo/Rick Bowmer)

Arizona State and Utah went head-to-head at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City on Saturday, and the Utes flexed their muscle, winning 55-3.

Trenton Bourguet, Prince Dorbah and Michael Matus were notable injuries in the game, continuing to test the Sun Devils’ depth throughout the year. We’ll see if any of these injries are long-term.

After back-to-back games against Washington and Washington State where ASU looked like it was on the right track, it was a rough day against the Utes.

Here are som numbers that told the story:

83: ASU’s total yards on the day. Thin at offensive line and a quarterback injury early made a good Utah defense’s day a little bit easier. They showed why they are consistently a top defense.

55: The most points Utah has scored since joining the Pac-12.

352: Utah’s totaly rushing yards.

36:33 – Utah’s time of possession for the game. ASU’s defense has played very well recently – for the entire year, really – but the Utes controlled the clock.

20: Giovanni Sanders’ yardage total. He led all ASU receivers in that category. Only he and Troy Omiere reached double-digit yards in the passing game.

ASU will look to get right and get healthy in the last month of the season. Their remainting schedule is at UCLA and then hosting Oregon and rival Arizona.
