It was a packed house at Westwood High School on Wednesday.
Defensive end Sinei Tengei was putting pen to paper to make it official with ASU.
He committed to Arizona State days after they had offered him this past summer. But this was not the first time they had crossed paths.
I want to thank God for giving me all these blessings. I also want to thank my family, coaches, and friends for their support. With that being said, I am committed to @ASUFootball @KennyDillingham @VinceAmey @Coach_Diron @CoachOmura @bllarge @jwlicht4 @Samumafua69 pic.twitter.com/NDDmzwLfgJ

In the fall of 2024, Tengei was on-campus taking in the ASU-Kansas game. During that weekend, defensive line coach Diron Reynolds challenged the then-linebacker to bulk up while not sacrificing speed, a combination that could help him play defensive line.
Tengei took that challenge to heart and did exactly what Reynolds asked of him. Last summer when ASU saw what he had changed, they offered him on the spot. Tengei jumped at the chance to be a hometown hero.
Since then, Tengei rattled off 89 tackles, 22 tackles for loss and 11 sacks in his first season as a defensive lineman. And he’s ready to build upon that in Tempe with the Sun Devils.
