The legacy of Zach Hoffpauir lives on forever at Centennial high school.
In a game against Hamilton, the Huskies retired Hoffpauir’s number 31 jersey in an emotional ceremony. Zach’s family, friends, former teammates, and even former teachers were in attendance to honor him.
Named as the top athlete in the school’s history, he’s now the second to have a jersey retired. No one will wear No. 31 on the Coyotes football field again.
“I know this is rare and doesn’t happen a lot,” Zach’s dad, Doug Hoffpauir said. “I cried right away. It was very touching.”
The ceremony was organized by Centennial volleyball coach Cari Bauer. She taught Zach when he was there and coached his sister on the volleyball team as well.
“It needed to be done right,” Bauer said. “I’ll be honest with you this was easy because of the impact that he had.”
