Eleven years is a long time between championship trophies for San Antonio. I suppose I could look at the five titles they have won and conclude that the Spurs organization just might know a bit more about loading and reloading than we do here in Phoenix, where there is plenty of room in the rafters for banners since the team has NEVER won one. Over the last couple of days, I’ve run into Suns fans who insist they can’t root for the Spurs after Robert Horry’s 2007 hip check on Steve Nash. Amar’e Stoudemire and Boris Diaw were both suspended for the next game after leaving the bench. The series turned on that one play, and the Suns lost. I guess I’m left wondering how something from 19 years ago would impact judgment in today’s world. No good GM lives in the past…

The Spurs had the guts to bottom out and rebuild. Something that the current Suns owner refuses to do. Who would sign up for a year or two of missing postseason only to reload with a team set up to WIN big in May and June when it matters? Something has to give on the makeup of the Arizona roster. For the third year in a row, we are left to wonder about the depth of the starting rotation. Marte has been streaky. Is there enough offense coming out of the catcher’s position(health too)? Just hoping Corbin Burnes returns to contribute isn’t going to be enough. Zac Gallen has slowly faded out of being a top or second-in-line arm in the rotation. Skubal makes a lot of sense($ too)…

Sat at many Arizona Cardinals games with Larry Fitzgerald Sr. For some reason, our seats were right next to each other in the press box several times for his son’s games. Fitz Sr. was a guest on many, many shows. He would take big breath of pound the table if his son wasn’t producing, but he never, ever, clapped or cheered. He was a journalist first. RIP…
