Where ASU Stands On Transfer Portal Additions & Losses (So Far)

Things are moving fast and furious in the transfer portal as Arizona State looks to reshape its roster.

2025’s squad had a ton of experience and was senior-heavy, meaning there’s plenty of spots needed to be filled.

The Sun Devils have been off to the races, but still plenty of work to be done.

Quarterback

The room pre-portal: We’ll see a very different quarterback room from 2025 as the top two on the depth chart – Sam Leavitt and Jeff Sims – will not be returning. Cam Dyer is back, and spent much of the last year rehabbing an ACL injury but was cleared to play late in the year. Four-star commit Jake Fette has practiced with the team at the Sun Bowl. Butter Tollefson and Christian Hunt are also in the QB room.

Portal Additions:

Cutter Boley (Kentucky)

It’s clear the Sun Devils prioritized Boley early and wanted him to be one of the first additions to the class. The former Kentucky QB stands at 6-foot-5, 220 pounds, has a big arm and is more mobile than at first glance.

If there’s an area of Boley’s game to iron out, it’s taking care of the football. He threw 12 picks in his redshirt freshman year, although some of them were not necessarily his fault.

Dillingham offered Boley out of high school, who re-classified, and Liam Coen ultimately was able to get Boley to commit to Kentucky. Having some of those quarterback gurus fighting of Boley out of high school shows the talent he possesses and the quarterback he could grow into.

Running Back

The room pre-portal: Raleek Brown kept up the streak of 1,000-yard rushers under Shaun Aguano last year, but he is now gone. Kanye Udoh is also in the portal after one year in Tempe. Jason Brown Jr. and Man-Man Robinson saw action in the Sun Bowl and were impressive. Grayson Rigdon also saw limited action. Kyson Brown entered the season as RB1 last year but was seriously hampered by injuries. He put up over 150 all-purpose yards in the lone game where he saw extended action. Don’t sleep on him in 2026.

Portal additions:

David Avit (Villanova)

Avit provides a big back between the tackles, something the backfield looked to address last year with Kanye Udoh, who is now in the portal. The soon-to-be junior rushed for 1,610 and 17 scores in two years with the Wildcats.

Marquis Gillis (Delaware State)

Gillis rushed for 1,150 yards and seven scores in 2025 and adds some big play capability to an already deep running back room. He was coached by Clinton Portis with the Hornets as well.

Exiting via portal: Raleek Brown and Kanye Udoh. Brown may also explore NFL opportunities

Wide Receiver

The room pre-portal: The clear No. 1 in the room Jordyn Tyson is headed to the NFL. Malik McClain and Coben Bourguet are out of eligibility. Akim Lanieux & Noble Johnson are in the portal, as is Zechariah Sample, a player who would pop in practice consistently.

Jalen Moss brings the most experience of existing receiver room. He was hampered early in the season with injuries, but could be a much more consistent passing game weapon next season. Jaren Hamilton and Derek Eusebio are vets in the room and a promising group of freshmen will look to make a step next year.

Portal Additions:

Raiden Vines-Bright (Washington)

Vines-Bright is coming back to Tempe. The one-time Corona del Sol Aztec transferred to IMG Academy for his final year of prep ball and comes to Arizona State by way of Washington. As a true freshman, the 6-foot-1, 200-pound wideout saw some action, catching 24 passes for 238 yards and a score.

It was impressive to find the field as a true freshman. He’s a talent already and has a high ceiling with plenty of room to grow as his career progresses.

Omarion Miller – Colorado

The Sun Devils have had wild success with transfers from Colorado with Jordyn Tyson and Chamon Metayer in recent years.

Miller is the next in line. The 6-foot-2 wide receiver brought in 45 passes for 808 yards and eight touchdowns despite being part of a Buffalo offense that struggled.

He brings big-play capabilities and is a massive, proven target in the passing game.

Exiting via the portal: Zecharaiah Sample, Akim Lanieux, Noble Johnson

Tight End

The room pre-portal: Chamon Metayer and Cameron Harpole are both out of eligibility and moving on. They really helped up the standard of that room in the passing and run-blocking game. Khamari Anderson seems next in line and caught a touchdown pass in the Sun Bowl. AJ Ia is a talented freshman who had an incredible fall camp. Expect an expanded role from him. James Giggey rounds out the returners. Coleson Arends and Jayden Fortier are now in the portal.

The Sun Devils also have talented prep commits Hayden Vercher and Landen Miree coming to Tempe shortly.

There have been some transfer offers out there to tight ends but no commitments yet.

Offensive Line

Tthe room pre-portal: Arizona State needs to replace its two starting tackles in Josh Atkins and Max Iheanachor. They’ll also see Kyle Scott move on and Ben Coleman’s and Jimeto Obigbo’s eligibility are out. This was an experienced group that played a good amount of football together over the last two years.

In some ways, it feels a little bit like a turning of a page for this group.

Wade Helton stepped in nicely when his number was called. Maki Steweart rotated in late in the season as well. Makua Pule was crucial in the win over Texas Tech. Jalen Klemm and Champ Westbrooks are young guys to watch at the tackle positions. I’m also interested to see how Brent Helton factors in when fully healthy. There is some serious size in this year’s freshman class that will look to take a few steps this offseason.

The Sun Devils also brought in the No. 1 JUCO prospect in the nation in Jarmaine Mitchell, who should compete right away at one of the tackle positions. Siosaia Lapuaho is another JUCO tackle who is a part of this recruiting class.

Exiting via the portal: Joshua Atkin, Sean Na’a, Joey Su’a transferred (Central Arkansas)

Defensive Line

The defensive line was one of the most experienced groups on the team last year and will see some major turnover, particularly at the edge position. Anthonie Cooper, Jacob Kongaika, Justin Wodtly, Clayton Smith, Elijah O’Neal and Prince Dorbah all saw their eligibility clock out.

The Sun Devils got great news already with CJ Fite returning to the team for his final year. Ramar Williams and Albert Smith both saw some action on the field this year and are promising young talents. Blazen Lono-Wong saw his role expand last year. Zac Swanson is very good when healthy and MyKeil Gardner is among the top recruits coming out of high school and was coming off an Achilles tendon injury.

Salesi Manu, Daeshon Morgan and Rashad McKenzie could see themselves move up the depth chart a bit as well.

Kirtland Vakalahi is a JUCO transfer with an interesting backstory that is looking to contribute right away.

Exiting via the portal: Ian Shewell with one year remaining

Linebacker

This went from a thin group in 2023 to one of the deepest and best position groups in two quick years. ASU will need to figure out how to replace Jordan Crook and Keyshaun Elliott, who were two mainstays the last two years. Krew Jackson is also out of eligibility and Tate Romney has entered the portal.

Martell Hughes emerged as a young talent that logged significant minutes on the field as a sophomore. Zyrus Fiaseu is reportedly returning after getting an eligibility waiver. He only played four games in 2025 but was an important part of the Peach Bowl team.

Tristan Bacon, Puka Fuimaono, Isaiah Iosefa and Prayer Young-Blackgoat are younger players to keep an eye on.

Exiting via the portal: Tate Romney

Secondary

There’s a lot of change in the secondary. Keith Abney Jr. is headed to the draft. Javan Robinson transferred to Wisconsin. X Alford and Ghost Rowser both declared for the draft. Kyndrich Breedlove and Nyland Green were both redshirt seniors. Young guns Chris Johnson Jr., Tommy Romano and Tony-Louis Nkuba are both in the portal as well.

Boogie Wilson stepped up big in Alford’s absence and should. Montana Warren has continued to grow at the nickel.

Ben Alefaio-Lilii & Kyan McDonald saw extended time in the bowl game. Joseph Smith is a young guy to watch here as well. Rodney Bimage logged a lot of time before his season ended early due to injury. He pushed Robinson and Abney in practice.

Incoming transfers:

Caleb Chester – Texas

The former Texas defensive back did not play in a game his freshman year with the Longhorns, but he continues the Texas-2-Tempe pipeline with the Devils. He was a quick turn from entering the portal to committing to the Sun Devils.

Ashton Stamps – LSU

The LSU cornerback only saw actuion in one game in 2025, but combined for 74 tackles and 14 passes defended in 2023 & 2024 over 17 starts. He stands at 6-foot, 190 pounds and is one of the more experienced secondary members on the roster.

Exiting via the portal: Javan Robinson (Wisconsin), Chris Johnson, Tony Louis-Nkuba (UNLV), Jack Bal, Adama Fal, Tommy Romano, Niko Klemm, Joseph McGinnis

Special Teams

There will be a fair amount of turnover in this group as well. Kicker Jesus Gomez and long-snapper Cade Davis and Tyler Wigglesworth are all out of eligibility.

Punter Matt McKenzie announced he would enter the portal on December 20.

Kicker Carston Kieffer and punter Kanyon Floyd still have remaining eligibility in the special teams room.

Incoming transfers:

Nick McLarty – punter

McLarty is a 6-foot-7 soon-to-be-junior that was with Ohio State and comes originally from Austraila.
