What’s new in 2013 at the WM Phoenix Open

Every year, the Waste Management Phoenix Open is one of the most talked about events of the year in the Valley as thousands upon thousands come to the TPC Scottsdale to take part in one of the biggest PGA events of the season.

Once the calendar hits January, it means the open is rapidly approaching. And there are new and improved additions to the Open in 2013 that look to make it better and more exciting.

The first addition that members of the Thunderbirds and the Waste Management Phoenix Open are very excited about is the Military Patriots Outpost. It is a tent that is located up on the hill off 18th tee box and above the 18th fairway that over looks the final hole, final green and other great sights including the famous 16th hole.

“Where all past and present military men and women can enjoy the Phoenix Open and have hosted food and beverage,” explained 2013 Waste Management Phoenix Open Tournament Chairman Thomas Altieri. “We are thrilled. For years anyone with a military ID been able to come to the tournament free. This year we are proud to offer them full hosted hospitality.”

Of course the 16th hole wouldn’t be the 16th hole without something new and improved added to it for yet another tournament. The hole will yet again be surrounded by stadium seating and 25 more boxes this year than last year. Every year they try and make it more and more like an Arena. One specific edition makes it just that.

“It’s bigger,” mentioned Altieri. “What’s new this year is it’s almost like a basketball arena as there will be a ring of light (LCD screens) around the hole. So it is going to be more arena like then ever before.”

What can possibly make the 16th more like an Arena in the future might you ask?

“The next step is a roof!” Altieri joked.

Those are just two of the exciting additions to look forward to at the 2013 Waste Management Phoenix Open. The fun begins on January 28th and Pros2Preps.com will have coverage from start to finish.
