VIDEO – Phoenix Mercury’s Next Chapter

Turning the page on WNBA greats Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner feels more like starting a whole new book, but having a core of Kahleah Copper, Alyssa Thomas and Satou Sabally to carry the franchise into the future softens the sting.

As Thomas and Sabally search for their first titles, and Copper her second, the internal flame is as bright as ever to capture the Mercury’s fourth WNBA Championship.

“We all come from different winning backgrounds,” Thomas said. “Now we get the chance to be together and accomplish something different. I’m still chasing a championship.”

The versatility of their games on both ends and the way their strengths compliment each other on paper is absolutely worth your attention.

Especially given their apparent off-court chemistry and the fact that Copper and Thomas have seen success with Team USA at the 2022 World Cup in Australia (Gold) and 2024 Paris Olympics (Gold).

Two-time All-WNBA first teamer in Thomas plans on making everyone’s lives easier as the maestro of the offense and defensive anchor.

She’s specifically amped to get out in transition with Copper and help Sabally access another level of her potential.

Thomas’ fiancé and 2014 WNBA Champion with the Mercury, DeWanna Bonner, already prepared her for what’s to come with the X-Factor.

“I’ve gotten a crash course about this organization,” Thomas said. “She speaks so highly of the fan base and all the people here.”

When the all-time leader in career triple-doubles is ready to put on a show, all that’s left to do is set the stage and grab your popcorn.

We’ll see what tricks head coach Nate Tibbetts and associate head coach Kristi Toliver have up their sleeves.
