Former Phoenix Mercury player and assistant coach Bridget Pettis found her way to “the land” after a struggle with her identity. Project Roots was born out of her own personal experience growing up with food insecurity in the inner city. Project Roots aims to resolve food insecurity in Phoenix through education, farmers markets, produce delivery and more. Pettis also started her own foundation – The Bridget Pettis Foundation, to bring basketball camps to children while also educating them about nutrition. BE still goes to the park regularly to enjoy a game of basketball in the most “innocent way” where she learned how to play.
