“I was thrilled,” Taurasi said. “What a resumé…Mat [Ishbia], Josh [Bartelstein], & Nick [U’Ren] – they’re going all in and I think you can feel that with the hiring of Nate.”
Mercury guard and WNBA all-time scoring leader, Diana Taurasi, is encouraged by the hiring of Phoenix’s new head coach in long-time NBA assistant Nate Tibbetts.
“I believe the last time we had an NBA head coach that had never coached women before by the name of Coach [Paul] Westhead, we won a championship,” Taurasi said, “I have pretty good experience in that realm.”
On if the front office asked for her opinion in the search: “Yes, but I don’t get paid to make those decisions.”
She also mentioned how excited she is for the Mercury’s incoming practice facility, as announced by owner Mat Ishbia.
The team will hold Tibbetts’ introductory press conference on Friday at 10 AM.
