Ketel Marte indeed deserves to be in the National League MVP conversation, but what is fact is Ohtani plays in a media mecca and moves the needle(clicks) more than a player in Arizona. That’s not to say I’m against Marte(I’m not) but I’ve seen this movie happen before in sports, and the guy in the bigger market will always get more consideration. Ohtani certainly has been the most valuable player for the Dodgers, but without Marte, the Diamondbacks would be looking up at most of the NL West.
