Things got ugly at times for Arizona State football.
The Devils turned the ball over four times.
The offense looked stagnant at times, especially to start the game.
There were near-misses that could have resulted in touchdowns.
It was ugly at times, but there’s no such thing as an ugly road win. Eventually, the Sun Devils pulled away from Colorado and took this one 42-17 for their eighth win of the season.
1K-Leek
Raleek Brown had the best game of his career with 255 rushing yards and one touchdown. He also had a 33-yard touchdown through the air.
He has eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark on the season, joining Eno Benjamin, Rachaad White, X Valladay and Cam Skattebo as 1,000-yard rushers under running backs coach Shaun Aguano.

Devil Defense Stepping Up
While Arizona State struggled to find themselves offensively, the Arizona State defense stood tall time and again. The four turnovers resulted in three points. Keyshaun Elliott led the way with seven tackles, two sacks and two tackles for loss.
That side of the ball faced multiple short fields, but Brian Ward’s unit set the tone and gave the offense an opportunity to get pull away from the Buffaloes.
The defense also played relatively clean as well. There were two penalties on Justin Wodtly – who played at an incredibly high level – but aside from that, that side of the ball played to the whistle, but not through the whistle.
Plenty to Clean Up
The Devils fumbled the ball three times, and they lost the ball twice where no one was hitting the runner. Jeff Sims threw an ill-advised interception after the ASU defense forced a turnover on downs.
Arizona State pulled away in the fourth quarter, but led by just four points to start the 4th quarter.
Flat out, they’ll have to play much, much better if they want to keep the Territorial Cup in Tempe next week, but they overcame those challenges to nab a win on the road.
It will be a battle of eight-win teams when the Sun Devils and Wildcats square off November 28 at 7 PM in Tempe. The Sun Devils still have a chance to make the Big 12 Championship game, but will need some help from Texas Tech, BYU or Utah.
