They’ve talked with Beau Baldwin, Neil Brown, and Jedd Fisch. They probably should talk with Marcel Yates. After all the talking is complete, Arizona should hire Kevin Sumlin as their next head football coach. The only question on Sumlin is the cost.
Arizona State made a run at Sumlin before hiring Herm Edwards. It would add to the rivalry if the Wildcats were the ones that were able to get a name brand like Sumlin to join them.
Put Heisman hopeful QB Khalil Tate and Sumlin on the same sideline, you’d have a buzz factor around Arizona football that hasn’t been seen in a long, long time.
How long Sumlin would stay in Tucson is not even a point of concern in my opinion. Go back to Larry Smith leaving the Wildcats for USC. You WANT programs to covet your head coach.
Dave Heeke has been on the job at the UofA since April of last year(he was hired in February 2017). Having a splashy hire like Sumlin to make the statement that football is just as big of a deal than basketball, certainly makes sense.
With the dead period in recruiting finishing up on Thursday of this week, you’d have to expect a coaching hire would happen in the next 24-48 hours. I’d be shocked if Arizona didn’t have a coach in place to hit the recruiting trail Friday morning. The buzz from the American Football Coaches Association meetings Tuesday night was Sumlin was the leader for the job. Deals can fall apart, but i’d like to see this one go through…
