Steve Kerr: Nash has plenty of options

The Phoenix Suns can only sit, wait, and hope as the summer approaches and temperatures rise in the Valley.

Out of the playoffs for the second consecutive year, the only drama left to play out is the future of two-time MVP and eight-time All-Star Steve Nash who hits free-agency with plenty of suitors.

The two sides have been civil with both parties hopeful for a new deal, but with Nash likely reaching the end of his career and Phoenix nowhere close to contending for a title, many experts feel Nash has played his last game with the Suns after the franchise opted not to trade him before the deadline.

For now, all we can do is speculate until July 11 when free-agency opens.

“It’s really too early to be hearing much,” NBA on TNT analyst and former Suns General Manager Steve Kerr told Brad Cesmat Tuesday on ‘Big Guy on Sports.’ “There’s always speculation. People in Miami are talking about him joining the Heat, possibly.”

Nash has also been linked to New York where the Knicks implement a similar offense to what Alvin Gentry and the Suns do here in Phoenix.

“There’s always talk about the Knicks because Steve has on off-season home there,” Kerr said. “Who really knows. There are so many dynamics. I’m sure it’s going to be an incredibly difficult decision for him to make.”

Nash, the Suns 1st-round pick in 1996 (15th overall), just finished his second stint in Phoenix after signing as a free-agent in the summer of 2004.
