Dropped in on the Arizona State basketball game Saturday afternoon. It was more like attending a wake for what happened on the football field just three days earlier. Each conversation included a reference to “4th and 13” or “the officials robbed us”. It’s what fandom is all about. For me, page is turned, and on to the intriguing basketball team that Bobby Hurley has put together. I haven’t seen much of them in person because they’ve been on the road(avoided?) playing games in their own dilapidated building. No need to beat a dead horse to start 2025…

I tried to watch the second half of the Suns game on Saturday night. Not easy. No defense, lots of second chances for Indiana. The Suns don’t look anything close to a team here in January. Booker and Durant playing in the Olympics last Summer meant less minutes in the “who cares” to start the season, so here we are a team that looks old and slow. Here’s the other side of the coin, they’ve played only 33 of the 82 regular season games. I don’t think Jimmy Butler would find his joy here in Phoenix until games in April. The Cardinals drafting Cam Skattebo sounds great, and makes for good talk show fodder, but the reality is they have bigger problems on the roster than running back. Of course, you have to ask the question, are the Cardinals drafting for need or best football player available, there is a difference.
