Recruiting Notebook: First Offers, Dampier Expands on Commitment, Top 10 And More

Carston Kieffer – 2023 Corona Del Sol, Kicker

Five-star Aztecs kicker Carston Kieffer received his first D1 offer from the Sun Devils on Oct. 8. Corona Del Sol head coach Jake Barro has raved about his talent, sighting that he is the Aztecs best prospect in their 2023 class. Carston spent his summer traveling across the country competing in various kicking camps and taking unofficial visits to schools.

“I am blessed and it feels great to have my first offer on the table and ASU is right down the street from Corona del Sol,” Kieffer said. “I think Coach Aguano is a great fit for ASU. After my conversation with him, I felt he truly cares about his players and really wants to retain top AZ recruits.”

Carston has had a perfect season thus far for the Aztecs as he’s 17/17 on extra points this season and is 2/2 on field goals. The 2023 kicker is very active on Twitter, consistently posting videos from his kicking competition, season highlights and more.

Devon Dampier– 2023 Saguaro, Quarterback

Three-star quarterback Devon Dampier announced his commitment to the University of New Mexico on Oct. 12.

“The coaching staff over the phone and in person made it clear I was a priority,” Dampier said. “And by coaching staff, I mean all of them!”

Dampier said the Lobos attitude towards him never changed from the moment they saw his film his junior season. The decision for Devon ultimately boiled down to choosing between New Mexico and Yale. In previous conversations, Dampier always expressed his interest in playing at an Ivy League school and prioritizing his education equally with football. The biggest difference-makers for the Saguaro quarterback was the opportunity to get a head-start and compete at the University of New Mexico.

“The situation I’m going into there I have a chance to compete for a spot right away so I just wanted to have that extra time to get to know the system and process things as soon as possible.”

Demond Williams Jr. – 2024 Basha, Quarterback

Basha high school quarterback Demond Williams Jr. revealed his top 10 schools on Oct. 11. The list includes the University of Arizona and Arizona State, among other Power 5 schools. He’s received advice from former teammates to focus on his grades, focus on the next game and to stay level-headed about his recruitment.

This season he has posted 1,028 passing yards with 14 passing touchdowns in the Bears’ 5-1 start.

Roch Cholowsky– 2023 Hamilton, Quarterback

Despite being the backup quarterback to Nicco Marchiol for two seasons, Roch Cholowsky is one of the most sought-after two-sport athletes in the state. Roch has verbally committed to play baseball at UCLA but received an offer from Notre Dame on Oct. 12 with the opportunity to play both baseball and football. Roch is among a few other high school prospects in Arizona hoping to play two sports (Duce Robinson and Jeremiah Newcombe have also expressed interest). Notre Dame has not had a quarterback from the class of 2023 commit yet, presenting Roch with a potentially appealing opportunity.

Cholowsky has been out with an injury but in just four games he’s managed to post 797 yards, nine touchdown passes and two rushing touchdowns.

Cooper Perry– 2025 Notre Dame Prep, Wide Receiver

The young Saints wide receiver earned an offer from the University of Oregon on Oct. 11. The first Division I offer Cooper received came directly from Shaun Aguano at ASU but the offer from the Ducks arrived shortly after.

Cooper has already made a huge impact on Notre Dame Prep football this season, quickly becoming one of the standout players on the team. Perry has 549 receiving yards in six games this season.
