Phoenix Native, Travis Shumake will make his professional debut at Firebird Motorsports Park in Chandler this weekend. Shumake is the first openly gay NHRA driver and is the son of late Funny Car Champion, Tripp Shumake. Travis grew up in Glendale and coached cheerleading at Chaparral High School where he led the squad to back-to-back Cheerleading National Championships.
Ahead of the event this weekend Travis discussed the meaning of competing in Phoenix, the challenges of building his own team and why his pit may be the most vocal this weekend.
