Perfect Pace: Matador Finds Ideal Fit

By Liam Morales

National Signing Day is an exciting time for many high school athletes as they sign their national letter of intent to continue their academic and athletic pursuits at the collegiate level.

Shadow Mountain High School’s 6-foot-3 wide receiver, Jordan Pace, committed to play at Black Hill State University (BHSU) in Spearfish, South Dakota. “It just felt right,” Pace said to Sports360AZ.com after his official visit of the campus. “I went up there and instantly connected with a few of the players.”

BHSU finished 2016 with a 7-4 record and Pace believes they’re headed in the right direction. “From one year going 0-11 to 7-4 the next, the coaches must be doing something right,” Pace said alluding to the 2015 season. “I want to be a part of something special and I feel with going to BHS, that’s the best option for me.”

In Pace, BHSU is getting a big-bodied, three-year varsity receiver who recorded 112 catches for 1,793 yards and 22 touchdowns during his career at Shadow. His connection with quarterback Darion Spottsville is a unique one.

Pace feels that he will bring a winning attitude to BHS. Although the Matadors  football program didn’t have the best season, (5-5) Pace has a lot of winning experience in another sport; basketball.

Pace played varsity basketball for four years, won two state titles and is hoping to win his third this season under head coach Mike Bibby. “I feel I can bring in somewhat of a swagger and different type of work ethic.”

A work ethic to win that can only be fueled by success and oddly enough… Chili’s.

“I go to Chili’s at least three times a week, every week,” Pace said as he continued to rattle off almost the entire menu.

Chili’s or not, Pace is excited to be part of the Black Hill State community.

“It’s hard to explain, you can just tell something is special about this place.”
