UCLA needed a safety and got one in four-star prospect R.J. Jones from Southern California powerhouse St. John Bosco High School. He made the announcement Friday at Senior Night, when Bosco played rival Mater Dei. It doesn’t fully offset the Bruins losing four-star tailback Roderick Robinson to Georgia, but it certainly helps because they needed a safety in this class.
In that same high school rivalry, three-star interior offensive lineman Lipe Moala committed to Oregon. He’s a nice pick-up for the Ducks who has come along in his senior year.
*** That’s a nice lead-in to the big game this weekend in Eugene. ESPN’s ‘GameDay’ will be there to watch Oregon play UCLA. And the Ducks will have a slew of prospects in town.
Among the unofficial visitors, the biggest name is Jayden Limar, a four-star tailback from Lake Stevens, Washington.
We mentioned him a few weeks ago when he took a visit to Arizona. He has been committed to Notre Dame since the spring and is the No. 1 running back in the Pacific Northwest in the prep class of 2023. Now, he’s seeing Oregon for an unofficial visit. Potentially, he could take an official visit later in the year.
Limar is one of several recruits committed to other schools who will be in Eugene.
Another is Trech Kekahuna, a three-star receiver from Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas. Right now, he’s committed to Wisconsin, but the decision came back when Paul Chryst was the Badgers’ coach, before he got fired. Oregon is trying to get Kekahuna to flip.
Three-star receiver Keith Reynolds, who’s committed to Washington, will be in Eugene. And same with three-star athlete Jamari Johnson, an Adidas All-American who’s committed to Louisville.
The Ducks will also welcome their own commits. One of those scheduled for campus this weekend is four-star safety Kodi Decambra, a teammate of Kekahuna’s at Gorman.
Another, not surprisingly, is Teitum Tuioti, a four-star edge rusher who’s the No. 1 player in the state of Oregon — his dad, Tony, is Oregon’s defensive line coach.
The Ducks are also hosting a number of 2024 prospects. Nate Frazier, a four-star athlete from Mater Dei, might be the headliner.
Also scheduled to attend the game are four-star tight end A.J. Pugliano, the No. 1 prospect in the state of Oregon in 2024 — he is a heavy Oregon lean — and three-star offensive lineman Devin Brooks, the No. 3 player in the state.
And we shouldn’t forget about Fox Crader, a three-star offensive lineman from Washington who just received an offer from USC.
Lastly, there’s a notable visitor from the class of 2025: Jordon Davison of Mater Dei, who’s only the No. 1 ranked sophomore running back in the country.
So the Ducks have a chance to impress players from the 2023, 2024 and 2025 classes.
*** Cal will host a couple of visitors this weekend for the Washington game, including four-star cornerback Rodrick Pleasant. The Serra High School star is the defending California state champion in the 100 and 200 meters.
He’s taking an official visit to Berkeley, along with Serra teammate Frederick Williams, a three-star edge rusher.
*** Stanford has visitors in town for the Arizona State game, the most interesting being four-star tight end Hogan Hansen, a class of 2024 prospect from the Seattle area.
His father, Dinny, played at Stanford. Obviously, Washington is recruiting him heavily, and he just visited Michigan. But he’s a Stanford legacy, and the Cardinal has been very good at recruiting tight ends despite its on-field struggles.
Also scheduled for campus is Carter Jackson, an unrated running back from the class of 2025 who has burst onto the scene from Granite Bay, outside Sacramento.
