With championship weekend wrapped up, bowl season is up0n us, and the Oregon Ducks and the Liberty Flames.

The Ducks are very fmailiar with the game and lcoation. Oregon most recently played in the Fiesta bowl in 2021 in a loss to Iowa State. That matchup featured two former Arizona quarterbacks in the Cyclones’ Brock Purdy and the Ducks’ Tyler Shough.

Speaking of Arizona quarterbacks…

If Bo Nix opts out of the bowl game to prepare for the NFL Draft, former Mesquite High School standout Ty Thompson would be the presumed starting quarterback for the Ducks.

Along with Thompson, former Williams Field wide receiver Kyler Kasper, Basha cornerback Cole Martin, Saguaro & ASU linebacker Connor Soelle, Chandler defensive lineman A’Mauri Washington and Liberty defense lineman My’Keil Gardner are all Arizona players on the Ducks roster.

The Ducks went 10-2 on the year, losing to Washington twice including in the Pac-12 matchup.

Liberty went 13-0 in C-USA and averaged 40.8 points and 530 yards per game. They are headlined by quarterback Kaidon Salter, who threw for 2,750 yards, 31 touchdowns and five interceptions.

The Flames are coached by Jamey Chadwell, who is in his first year with Liberty after coaching Coastal Carolina.

Kickoff for the Fiesta Bowl is January 1 at 11 AM Arizona time.
