Not excusing Jimmy Butler, Robles whirlwind, Mercury minus stars, more…

Jimmy Butler is another name to add to the list under the headline, “What’s Wrong with Sports”. It’s not the first time that a player has tried to force his way off of a team, but the way that Butler has gone about his quest to become a member of the Phoenix Suns at the expense of his current emplayer in Miami is less than distasteful. Excusing away his attempt to take down the Heat franchise and an icon in Pat Riley to get his one way plane ticket to Phoenix doesn’t work for me…

Remember when it was outrage if Devin Booker was left off the starting five for the NBA All-Star game?…

Mat Ishbia’s ownership style is certainly one to study. In the short time he’s had the Suns, the turnstile has turned over and over. Makes me wonder what this offseason will look like (if/when) the Suns don’t win a championship. Good owners are ones that know when it’s time to tear down and rebuild for another run. I’d say in the early going it’s fair to wonder if Ishbia is cut from that cloth. Not a criticsm, just a fact. Oklahoma City would be a good case study on how to keep a franchsie moving foward. We saw during the Decade of Decline under Robert Sarver how NOT to run a franchise…

Giving yoga a try. It’s a struggle to type after the first class…

Spent some time with Anthony Robles at Top Golf on Thursday night for the Desert Financial Breaking Barriers Student Athlete Scholarship event. Robles and Krysten Muir were on hand to give out awards. After the awards were handed out and dinner was served I caught up with Robles on his life since the premiere of his movie “Unstoppable” debuted on Amazon this past week.
“I was sitting with my two year old having breakfast and turned the TV on and the movie was there, my little guy pointed at the tv and said “Da Da”. The night before he was on the Nike Campus in Oregon for a screening. He’s been and seen alot of cool things in the last three months around the PR blitz. His first season as head wrestling coach at Hamilton high school in Chandler has been one of getting better and laying a foundation. He’s a one of one…

Three cheers to our own Jordan Spurgeon for his engagement. He definitly outkicked his coverage…

When was the last time that the Chandler Unified School District went through so much change with their football programs? Chris McDonald at Basha is now the longest tenured at seven years. Casteel, Chandler, ACP will all have different head coaches this Fall…

Fiesta Bowl gets passed over again for a College Football Playoff championship game and it barely causes a ripple. I wrote several years ago that the emergence of a stadium in Las Vegas and the new facility in LA are going to make staying relevant in the big sporting event business very difficult. We have a Womens Final Four next year, but I don’t see a Super Bowl or Men’s Final Four on the horion. Who is out there lobbying for us?…

How much NIL money is it going to take to keep Jayden Quaintance at Arizona State basketball for another season?…

Too much one on one play by Arizona Stat late in their quest to upset #3 Iowa State on Saturday. Team ball in the first half gave way to one player dribbling the ball with the shotclick ticking away. The end result was a poor shot. The idea of sharing the ball and having a fluid offense didn’t exist. Hammering nails(dribbling down the clock) isn’t a recipe for victory…

If Diana Taurasi, as expected retires, and Brittney Griner signs elsewhere, it will be very interesting to see just how much of a fan base the Phoenix Mercury truly have. This frnahise hasn’t had to work hard at selling tickets since Lady Di came along in 2004. How will this market react without the star power? Very fair to wonder…
