MLK Dream Classic honors community members from each school

This year’s MLK Dream Classic featured Combs, Tempe, Saguaro, Marcos de Niza, McClintock, Fairfax, Willow Canyon, Mountain Pointe, Basha, and the host school – Corona del Sol.

“It’s not a day off – it’s a day on.” Monarch Sports’ Marc Beasley said.

The fourth installment of this tournament honors the great Martin Luther King Jr, not only on the court, but off the court too.

“Celebrating MLK,” Beasley said. “Virtue for peace. What he really brought to our nation back in the 60’s during the Civil Rights Movement.”

The tourney presents a community member from Tempe Union nominated by their respective school during halftime of each game with a plaque.

These individuals were recognized for their advocacy in diversity, equality, and inclusion.

“It’s a full day of basketball but it’s a great way to get the community involved,” Beasley said.

Great way for the tournament to honor MLK and his work throughout the Civil Rights Movement as the honorees strive to improve their communities.
