In a shocking development, the Phoenix Mercury and center Tina Charles agreed to terms on a contract divorce, effective immediately.

“Best for both parties,” head coach Vanessa Nygaard said. “We’re ready to move forward and get out there and battle tonight.”

Charles averaged over 17 points and seven boards per contest.

With Phoenix’s record at seven wins and 12 losses, the 2021 WNBA scoring champion will be looking for a new team.

Mercury General Manager Jim Pitman: “After discussions with Tina and her agent, it was best for both parties to go our separate ways at this time.  Due to circumstances both in and out of our control, our season has not gone according to our plan, and we will continue to pursue all avenues for improvement.”

Phoenix has also released Kristine Anigwe and even though the roster only had eight players, they still defeated the Wings at Dallas behind Skylar Diggins-Smith’s 26 points.

The Mercury’s next game will be on Monday at 7:00pm as they host the Indiana Fever.
