The Arizona Cardinals announced on Wednesday that general manager Steve Keim and head coach Kliff Kingsbury have both received contract extensions through the 2027 season.
Keim has been the general manager since 2013 and just concluded his 23rd season with the Cardinals.
He took over general manager duties and quickly hired Bruce Arians to the be Arizona’s head coach. With Arians leading the way, the Cardinals posted a 49-30-1 record over five years. At the conclusion of the 2017 season, Arians retired to focus on his health, only to rejoin the coaching ranks with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a year later.
Steve Wilks was hired and went 3-13 in his lone season as the Cardinals head coach, making way for Kinsbury to join the Cardinals and for the organization to draft Kyler Murray with the first overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
In Kingsbury’s three years with the team, the Cardinals have gone 24-24-1. The team made the playoffs for the first time since 2015 this past season.
After extensions to various Cardinals leadership, the biggest question moving forward will be if quarterback Kyler Murray sees a similar long-term commitment from the organization. Murray’s agent Erik Burkhardt, who also represents Kingsbury, put out a statement earlier this week laying out why the quarterback should receive an extension. Murray still has one year remaining on his rookie contract with an additional option year.
