Jokic and the Suns, Ohtani and the D-backs, Wyatt Horton is one to root for…

From my inbox, Suns fans don’t forget.

I respect those who remember the past rather than run from it or pretend that the decade of decline didn’t happen. Mistakes happen by organizations. I DON’T care what other teams did or didn’t do in the current or past NBA Drafts. This is about what might’ve been in Phoenix.
Future Hall of Famer Nikola Jokic had 40-players(3 by the Suns) taken in front of him before Denver called his name at number 41 in the 2014 Draft. That year the Suns took T.J Warren at 14, Tyler Ennis at 18 and Bogdan Bogdanovic with the 27th pick. What might’ve been…

Going undrafted is actually a blessing for guys like Azuolas Tubelis and Marcus Bagley. Pick your spot(Philly), fly under the radar, and look at former Sun Devil Lu Dort(undrafted 2019) who’s now well compensated and having a solid NBA career with OKC…

Michael Wilbon is one of my guests on this weeks stream show. Should be a good chop-up session. His new book on Chris Paul is a terrific read. Wonder if he can add a chapter or two from the last week once it goes to paperback…

Gonzaga’s terrific big man Drew Timme wasn’t selected Thursday night, signing a two-way contract with Milwaukee. A big paycut coming his way after the NIL with the Zags…

Took in the muscial, Hairspray, at Gammage on Saturday afternoon with my wife. Laughed for nearly two-and-a-half hours. Terrific…

Read where one of the big sports betting sites has both Arizona and Arizona State football sitting at 5 wins on the over/under. That’s a pretty good call. Going from 3-9 in Tempe to six wins would be a remarkable step forward given how far into the ditch the program was run by the previous administration. The Wildcats turned the corner back to relevance on the football field in 2022. Jedd Fisch is doing a nice job after coming into the worst division one football program in America two years ago…

The Diamondbacks do have enough players to jump in on the Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes if the Angels decide to trade their star at the deadline in late July. You may laugh, but Arizona would be negligent if they didn’t pick up the phone and ask. Corbin Carroll and Zac Gallen would be no-goes for me. Beyond that, ask away. The revenue from the worldwide appeal of Ohtani would be enough to build a new ballpark, or upgrade the current location. I’m not saying that they should make a deal, but the idea of saying “we have no interest” isn’t what fans would want to hear from their team…

Took a driving trip with my son up to Colorado State for his college orientation this past week. We went out I-40 through Hollbrook, and then up I-25 staying in Santa Fe before going on in to Fort Collins. We came back down I-70 through Vail, spent the night in Moab, and trekked through Monument Valley on the way home. Lot of time to chat about the next steps, listen to Sirius XM(Coffee House, New Wave) I think I heard B52’s Private Idaho a dozen times. Good driving song…

Screening the new Indiana Jones and Mission Impossible movies this week. Reviews coming…

In talking about the quarterback carousel at Pinnacle high school, I’d prefer to focus on the Wyatt Horton story than the Dylan Raiola move to Georgia. Horton didn’t transfer and run away from competition when Raiola came over from Chandler. I spoke with a couple of college head coaches this week who were more than a bit impressed with how Horton hung in rather than avoiding the competition…
