Jamar Cain Joining ASU Staff as Defensive Line Coach

Jamar Cain interviewed for Arizona State’s vacant defensive line position on Friday and Saturday and verbally accepted the position late Saturday night. ASU officially announced the hiring on Tuesday.

“I am so excited to be a part of what Coach Edwards is building in Tempe and to be able to work this defensive staff,” Cain said to Sports360AZ.com. “This was just an opportunity that I could not pass up.”

Cain has spent the last two seasons at Fresno State. The Bulldogs finished the 2018 season with a 12-2 record including a Las Vegas Bowl victory over Arizona State.

“I am not going to change necessarily what I do, I am just going to be me,” he said. “I focus very heavily on the details and being able to stop the run.”

Prior to Fresno, Cain coached at North Dakota State, where he helped the Bison to two national titles. Before that he coached at Wyoming, where he coached for current ASU offensive line coach Dave Christensen. He was elevated to interim defensive coordinator by Christensen during the 2013 season.

He also has stops at Cal Poly, Missouri State, Ohio University and Sac City Community College. Cain played defensive end at New Mexico State.
