Jalin Conyers, DeCarlos Brooks Out Due to Injury Against Fresno State

Arizona State Football has already dealt with their fair share of injuries early on in the season.

That trend is continuing heading into the Fresno State game.

Tight end Jalin Conyers and running back DeCarlos Brooks have been ruled out for Saturday’s game due to injury, per the team.

The injuries were not disclosed and both players will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis.

This comes after last week where offensive linemen Isaia Glass and Cade Briggs were unable to suit up on Saturday. Right tackle Emmit Bohle suffered a lower leg injury that will keep him out for the remainder of the year. Add in Ben Coleman, who has not been able to practice with the Sun Devils since transferring to Cal, and Aaron Frost, who is coming back from a leg injury, and the offensive line has been depleted by injury.

With Conyers and Brooks out, the injury bug continues on the offensive side of the ball.

Conyers has six receptions for 68 yards so far in a game and a half this year. He sat out the second half of the Southern Utah game after a mild injury. He was taken out of the game as a precaution due to the long weather delay but returned to full action against Oklahoma State last week.

Brooks has 21 carries for 90 yards this year and has been a part of the two-headed monster with Cameron Skattebo in the backfield.

Messiah Swinson and Bryce Pierre should see an expanded role with Conyers’ absence, and they might be expected to have an extra emphasis on blocking given the injuries to the offensive line. Skattebo should continue to see heavy usage in the backfield. Tevin White, Kyson Brown, Javen Jacobs and George Hart could see more of a role to complement Skattebo.

“I think we need to get Tevin a little more involved, just with his ability to break (a run),” Dillingham said after Saturday’s loss. “I think right now, we’re not breaking any.”

Kick off between Arizona State and Fresno State is 7:30 PM at Mountain America Stadium.
