True freshman Jaden Rashada will reportedly be the starting quarterback for Arizona State on Saturday when the Sun Devils play Arizona.
The news was first reported by Chris Karpman of Sun Devil Source.
Rashada played in the team’s first two games before having surgery on his leg, which sidelined him for the next nine games.
The true freshman had worked his way back and took the first team reps almost exclusively this week in the portions of practice that were open to the media.
Rashada has complete 34/60 passes for 403 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in those two games.
He leads the team in touchdown passes, and his participation in Saturday’s game will not affect his redshirt status.
Arizona State has seen a stockpile of injuries at the quarterback position with Drew Pyne, Trenton Bourguet and Jacob Conover aloes seeing time as traditional quarterbacks this year. Cameron Skattebo and Jalen Conyers have also received snaps in various formations this year.
The Sun Devils are looking to play spoiler against Arizona on Saturday. With an Oregon loss on Friday and a Wildcat win on Saturday, Arizona would make it to the Pac-12 Champioship.
The Territorial Cup kicks off at 1:30 PM in Tempe.
