For the first time in over a decade, the Phoenix Suns are playoff-bound. It’s been a 360 degree turnaround in the second year under Monty Williams and there is a buzz around the Valley surrounding the purple and orange.
A big reason, or if not the reason, for the high-quality basketball has been the Chris Paul effect. The 36-year-old point guard has transformed the Suns offense and allowed Devin Booker and the supporting cast to play a team first, fun brand of basketball.
Paul is averaging 16.4 points per game, 4.5 rebounds, and 8.9 assists in his first year in Phoenix. National writer Jackie MacMullan of the Ringer and ESPN recently sat down on the Brad Cesmat Show to highlight CP3’s lasting impact on the Suns young team and how they’ve gone from a “nice story” to a legitimate title contender.

“Chris Paul is the perfect person to drop into that situation,” MacMullan said. “…He called Book (Booker) ahead of time and said, ‘I don’t want to be the leading scorer on this team. I want to make you as successful as possible.’…If you look at their numbers, their defensive numbers, their offensive numbers, everything is significantly better and I point directly to Chris Paul. He’s an MVP candidate and a deserved one.”
