Injury Updates on Taijuan Walker, Jake Lamb, Steven Souza

The Diamondbacks returned home after a 10-day road trip, and manager Torey Lovullo had multiple updates on injured players.

Taijuan Walker

The pitcher left Saturday’s game with forearm tightness, a symptom that can be typical of a UCL injury. After an MRI, Lovullo confirmed on Tuesday Walker does have a UCL injury, but the extent of that injury is unknown. Walker is flying to New York to get a second opinion.

Steven Souza Jr.

The newly-acquired right fielder suffered a right pectoral injury in spring training and had been progressing in his rehab ahead of schedule. But last week he had a setback when he felt the muscle pull while throwing. After a few days of rest away from the team, he returned on Monday and has been continuing his hitting regiment. Souza Jr. said he plans to participate in extended spring training games next week and will eventually start throwing.

Jake Lamb

Lovullo said Jake Lamb participated in an extended spring training game as a designated hitter and was pleased with what he saw. The next plan will be for Lamb to continue to play and receive live at-bats while also playing in the field to test the mobility and durability of that left shoulder.

It seems as though Lamb will be back in action relatively soon should his rehab continue to progress. Souza Jr. continues to make strides, and the Diamondbacks will determine the starting pitcher on Friday as Walker continues to get evaluated.
