“I Think I’ve Got Winning Players” ASU Knocks Off SMU In 2nd Half Surge

Arizona State gutted out a victory against SMU on Wednesday night 76-74.

The Sun Devils overcame a 13-point deficit in the second half, led by their defense and small ball lineup. ASU has been without big men Shawn Phillips and Zane Meeks and have been forced to adapt.

They did so pushing the tempo, outscoring SMU 22-7 in fast-break points.

Jose Perez notched his third 20-point game of his debut season with the Sun Devils. He got to the free throw line 15 times, hitting 12 of those throughout the night. The Sun Devils as a whole were on the attack, getting to the line 43 times.

Frankie Collins stressed protecting home court, where the Sun Devils are undefeated this season. They will not return to Tempe until January 4 against Utah. They will play Northwestern on December 20, but that will be at Footprint Center as a part of the Jerry Colangelo Hall of Fame Series.

Arizona State now heads to San Diego on Saturday and will play TCU on December 16.
