HoopTalk Notebook: Millennium at Brophy

It’s always fun when two big time juniors go head-to-head.

As good as a lot of these 2026’s are across the state – they still have another high school season of growth ahead of them – and that means untapped potential waiting to be accessed through one more offseason of the grind before every senior’s “Last Dance.”

When it comes to the No. 4 Millennium at No. 20 Brophy matchup we got for Wednesday night hoops, the junior vs junior matchup we enjoyed was the Tigers’ Cameron Holmes facing the Broncos’ Daylen Sharper.

Sharper is another great example of why being a two-sport athlete is beneficial. It was clear to see his combination of power, speed, and grace are elements of his game he honed throughout football season. A season where he put up over 840 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns, by the way.

On the hardwood – Sharper was making impressive, thread-the-needle passes all night. He wore pretty much every hat for Brophy. He was floor general, top scorer, leader, and the overall engine for this team. His shot off the dribble is one the defense has to respect as well.

The Tigers tightened up in the second half, as expected, and played the ole “make ANYONE but Sharper beat us” defense.

Senior Kai Hogan did a great job helping the Broncos’ cause by spacing the floor for Sharper to do his thing.

It’s no secret Holmes is the main man for the Tigers. He’s a creative slasher who’s dominant on the defensive end.

If he can find a consistent rhythm with his midrange shot and stay in the weight room this offseason – he’s gonna blow the doors off of senior year, and reaching that potential will trickle down to his team too.

What may get lost in the shuffle of Millennium’s success is Kingston Tosi’s work alongside Holmes in terms of cleaning up the glass and being a defensive anchor.

Senior point guard JT Amundsen is that veteran PG any good team would love to have run the show, plus he can knock it down from deep. The Tigers need him to be even more aggressive in looking for his shot if they hope to make a big postseason push.

Another energizing edition of Wednesday night hoops in the books as the playoffs approach and these squads look ready as ever.
