High school recruiting round-up

I knew Spring Evaluation period could get hectic, but I didn’t imagine it would get this crazy. As to my count, 34 student-athletes from the 2013 class have been offered by Division I football programs and an amazing eight players from the 2014 class have already been verbally offered.

Here is a breakdown of the latest offers.

The usual suspects of Priest Willis, Devon Allen, Kenny Lacy and Tyler Bruggman continue to haul in offers.

Willis was recently offered by Tennessee and Rutgers. Bruggman was offered by Iowa State on Wednesday night, Allen by Illinois. Lacy was recently offered by Hawaii and Oklahoma.

Willis now has 30 offers, Lacy 28, Allen 21 and Bruggman 10.

One player that has started to heat up has been Notre Dame Prep tight end Grant Martinez. Colorado State and San Diego State are his most recent offers.

Now that coaches have been able to eyeball Buckeye linebacker DeAndre Miller, his stock is soaring! Colorado State offered as did Texas San Antonio (a new WAC program). Arizona offered a few weeks ago, as did FCS programs South Dakota State, Eastern Washington and North Dakota. He will hold double-digit offers soon.

Peoria Centennial offensive tackle Hayden Johnson received his first FBS offer on Wednesday night when Wyoming offered the 6-5, 260 pounder. Wyoming also jumped in and offered Mesa Desert Ridge offensive lineman Nick Allen. Both also have South Dakota State offers.

Wide receivers Nate Phillips from Basha and Aeron Carr from Red Mountain were offered by North Dakota.

An intriguing prospect, Jake Matthews, from Ironwood Ridge in Tucson was offered by Navy. Matthews (6-3 200) played safety and wide receiver last year but is being looked at as a hybrid safety/linebacker.

But the biggest story is the early offers for the 2014 class. These offers are verbal. College coaches can not initiate contact with these players yet.

Boise State offered offensive lineman Natrell Curtis from Mountain Pointe as well as safety/wide receiver Jalen Brown. This is the first offer for the 6-3, 300 pound Curtis and the third DI offer for Brown, who has also been offered by Arizona and Arizona State.

Chandler Hamilton junior offensive tackle Casey Tucker has started to completely blow up. He will be an elite level national prospect. Notre Dame and Michigan offered recently and he already has been offered by Washington, Arizona State and Oregon State.

His teammate Qualen Cunningham also has been on fire recently. ASU, Washington and Texas A&M all offered the 6-4, 220 pound defensive end.

Arizona State is doing great recruiting young prospects. They recently offered Tucson Sabino OT Andrew Mike and 6-5 wide receiver Mark Andrews from Desert Mountain.

Colorado State was the first school to offer Notre Dame Prep junior safety/wide receiver Jordan Schlueter. NDP head coach Gary Gregory feels this kid will be a 20 offer player.
