Three Dots…
Over the last 14 months the Diamondbacks remade the front office, brought in Chip Hale, and have methodically gone about developing a solid nucleus. Last February I wrote about the television contract that the Diamondbacks had signed with Fox Sports that brought them 1.5-BBBBillion dollars. At the time it was pretty clear that they were going to be able to play with the big boys for any free agent. They kicked the tires on Reds star Aroldis Chapman(smart) during the summer but couldn’t pull the trigger on bringing him to Phoenix. Landing Zack Greinke is much bigger than Chapman, but just the fact that the Diamondbacks are shopping with intention to buy in the high-end section, is very encouraging. What strikes me most about the Greinke acquisition is that the Diamondbacks showed the ability to convince a super-star player to come to Phoenix. Sure, the details of the contract suggest that the Diamondbacks were willing to go to greater lengths(risks?) than the Dodgers or Giants. But we haven’t had a mega-star chose Phoenix for his place of employment since Randy Johnson came to Arizona…
BTW-I would trade AJ Pollock for Atlanta’s Shelby Miller. Finding a stud outfielder is easier than finding a stud pitcher. Give me pitching, pitching and more pitching.
Now that the Diamondbacks have landed Greinke and the Coyotes have rolled out budding stars like Max Domi and Anthony Duclair its very clear which pro sports franchise DOESN’T have the imagination of the fans. Through 20 games the Phoenix Suns have a lowly 8-12 record. They live and die(mostly die) by the outside shot and I have to wonder if we aren’t looking at yet another near-the-end-of the lottery team. It’s also VERY clear that Markieff Morris shouldn’t be wearing a Phoenix Suns uniform. He doesn’t play with emotion or heart. I have no tolerance and neither should the Suns for a guy who’s just collecting a paycheck…
Does Rich Rodriguez really like being in Tucson?
He flirted a bit with Louisville last year and now met with South Carolina. I have to believe Athletic Director Greg Byrne is asking the same question…
