In a season of firsts for the GCU women’s basketball team, the “first” they accomplished on Saturday may be the biggest yet.
The Lopes are dancing in March Madness for the first time in program history.
They needed every player and bit of effort to make it happen against a hungry Texas Arlington team that led the Lopes by double-digits in the second half. It felt pedestrian watching the Lopes have to scratch and claw for each possession. In WAC play, their average margin of victory was over 20 points per game.
But GCU came together and found a way to win with seniors Trinity San Antonio, Tiarra Brown and Laura Erikstrup leading the way in scoring.
Now, the Lopes – owners of a 30-game win streak – await Selection Sunday to see where they’ll be playing in the postseason.
