The GCU men’s basketball team is in March Madness for the third time in four years. It’s the highest they’ve ever been seeded, and the goal is no longer to just get to the tournament but to advance in the tournament.
The challenge ahead of the Lopes is the No. 5 seeded Saint Mary’s Gaels. The Gaels are one of the best rebounding teams in the country and haven’t lost since December.
They also are a program that the Lopes could aspire to be: a non-Power 5 program that is perennially in the tournament and can go toe-to-toe with the blue bloods of college basketball.
The Lopes have made plenty of history this season. They could add to that list with a tournament win on Friday night.
